Ride Report – Greg G’s Kalkallo to Bacchus Marsh 31 05 20

Greg (Sailbad)  - Ride Leader (as if we needed one…) – BMW S1000XR HP
Steve Bailes – TEC – Honda Goldwing (jet black – is there any other colour??)
Mike Fittall – the prettiest 2009 Ducati Monster you’ll see out there
Jeff Pavlou – BMW GSA Rallye
Roger Foot – BMW K1300 S
The Ride:
We met at Kalkallo, where the dirty bathrooms have become an “avoid at all costs” appalling hygiene issue!!  For ageing Ulysseans, this isn’t great……
We left on time, out Donnybrook Road and up Merriang Road, and across to Eden Park for a quick dirt road u turn!!  With a very red faced Sailbad leading, we looped around to Upper Plenty.  As good as the Wallan Bakery is, (Pretty Sally – wow I could make something out of this!!) we lit out for Darraweit Guim but not Bolinda, preferring the sweepers thar make that road famous!!  So we missed the Romsey Hot Oven, a fleeting glimpse is all we got….
The road from Heskett to Woodend was unusually crowded (but as usual, cold).  So we hit out for Trentham and the joys of 2 bakeries……  Sated, we headed off – 7 times Sailbad said “I think we should go the Daylesford Road” and he was wrong yet again – we missed the glow of Greendale for a boring (but dry) road to Ballan.
Local intel had the Glenmore Road escarpment as “problematic” so Sailbad “stole” Roger’s road from Ballan to Bacchus Marsh (Ingliston Road and Ironbark Road).
As quickly as it started, it was all over….  Lunch in Main Street, Roger off to socially “swan” it with rellies……  Ahhh – Ulysses rides, what’s not to like?
Steve Bailes – ever stalwart as TEC – many thanks!  And to those who didn’t complain about Sailbad’s u turn on 4 inch thick gravel, the world salutes you!!  (Well, I do anyway…)
Mike has an Apollo Bay ride next Sunday – I won’t miss it!!
Photos and videos on FB!!

Thanks for a great ride today Greg. A little chilly in spots but amazingly the weather was nothing like that forecast a few days ago. I gather that's coming tomorrow!
