Ride Report – Greg G’s Lilydale to Emerald Ride Via Whittlesea and Toolangi
First time ever – ride leader Greg G was first there (pic to prove it)!!
A cracking day – 11 bikes, chilly but no rain, and very few clouds. Andrew, Jeff, Steve, Pat, Mike (welcome “back”, Mike!!), Les, Colin, Jack & Sam joined ride leader Greg G and Tail End Charlie Dennis for a great mid winter outing on some of the north east’s best roads.
We went up through Coldstream to Yarra Glen, and across the Christmas Hills to Kangaroo Ground. From there to Panton Hills, then a slip down Church Road to a few k’s south of St Andrews. Up the Cottle’s Bridge Road, right into Hildebrand Road (the spiritual home of the horsey set – how pleased were we to see 500 horse floats at the Panton Hill equestrian centre? Better there than on our roads..) then down School Road for the ascent to Kinglake for morning tea beside a roaring open fire.
After some debate about just staying there and drinking coffee, it was agreed!! We are, after all, a motorcycle club so ride we must – and ride we did!! Toolangi wasn’t too cold, Chum Creek was “friendly” (pun intended) and Healesville was a balmy 10 degrees! We pulled the detour at Yellingbo on to the Macclesfield Road, with scenery to burn (literally – very treed area) and finished with a curry in Emerald – a hot finish to a pretty cool ride!!
If you could spare the time, the scenery across the Christmas Hills, Kangaroo Ground, Hildebrand Road and the St Andrews – Kinglake Road was most worthwhile, and the Macclesfield Road area offered superb bushland views. We had ride leader Greg snapping away still pics on the Go Pro……. Some are actually quite good (but only some…)
Pat’s ride next week’s gotta be better!! But a curry after????....... Lift ya game, Pat Ryan!!
