Rule number 1!! John is NEVER WRONG!! Rule number 2 – If John is ever wrong, read Rule Number 1!!
The intention was honourable enough – “let’s get down to Garfield via Nangana and Cockatoo for morning tea…… I’ll check the map – there’s gotta be a way of getting across to Inverloch!” Sounded worthy of a little scepticism, but it actually worked, and in fact worked out to be one of the best we’ve done in ages!!
We did exactly that – great roads and friendly traffic. WE struck a little fog over the Paternoster Road area, but otherwise had a great day’s weather, despite the “70% chance of showers” forecast. From Garfield, we toured down Coster Road to Westernport Road, through Poowong to Moyarra to Kongwak, then down to Inverloch. Some of the roads were EPIC!! All the others were a minimum of great.
Footnote – if you can get an old bloke like Greg scraping the pegs, the roads have to be awesome.
We arrived at Inverloch in bright sunshine with beaming faces!! A nice relaxed shoreside lunch was just the thing!!
The After Lunch Ride:
We had to get home – so let’s make it interesting!! Around the Bunerong National Coastal Park - Eagles Nest, Twin Reefs Shack Bay The Oaks and Cape Patterson – stunning scenery!! But it didn’t end there!! Off from Dalyston to Glen Forbes, the Gurdies, St Hellier and Lang Lang South!! More great roads but less petrol…. With vapour in the tank for Greg and Dennis, Tooradin couldn’t come quick enough. A quick “chat” break and off on our separate ways.
From Tooradin, we all went our own ways. Greg stopped for petrol and rejoined the road just as Brian went past. The two of them rode on together till Heatherton Road, where Greg beat a hasty retreat.
Thanks to John Cook for a great ride, and to Tail End Charlie Brian. After a negative forecast, thanks to all who turned out. It was great fun.
Next week, Les Cox has a ripper from Ardeer to Yea. I helped him scope the ride and from first hand experience I can say it is a ripper!! See you Sunday.
PS – the weather forecast will probably be as accurate as it was today…….
