On a day that threatened fairly ordinary weather, 8 of us lined up at Ardeer, most convinced the rain was gone! We were all caught out by a closed on ramp to the Ring Road – but some suffered worse than others. One nameless rider on a Goldwing actually turned up at the INBOUND 7-11, not the outbound. Fortunately he rang us when we were nowhere to be found!!
So off we went a little late out wide west and all the way down through Werribee, down the freeway to Little River, then onto the Geelong Bypass and off through the back blocks to Anglesea for morning tea. We had several brief showers on the radar, but arrived relatively dry.
We then engaged in a bit of automotive hop-scotch, as we seized every legal opportunity to get by slower vehicles to enjoy that superb but ridiculously speed limited road. Up front, Greg and Mike managed to find a reasonable stint of hinderance free riding, and we certainly made the most of it!! There were a few showers late that made the roads a bit slippery, but what great ride!!
Lunch in Apollo Bay showed glimpses of Ulyssean “group think”, as almost everyone had a scallop pie – delicious!!
Homeward bound, we slipped up Skene’s Creek Road through Forrest and Barwon Downs, and then right to Dean’s Marsh, where Mike left us to go visiting friends. It had been very wet in the Otways initially, but was dry for the rest of the ride home. Steve, Jeff and Sailbad rode to Geelong together, before the team split up.
Thanks Mike for a great ride, and Pat for a sterling job as TEC. Appreciation to everyone who came – it was a great group ride.
John Cook has some fun in store as we wind our way from Lilydale to Inverloch, with hardly a straight piece of road in sight!!
