The Tradition:
Each year, the Club celebrates by having the incumbent President lead a “shorter than usual” ride ending in a BBQ at Silvan Dam.  It often rains……. (today it didn’t).  The other tradition?  Greg forgot half the names…….  Sorry!!

The Ride:
Leaving from Officer, Brian led us off to the north down some great but little used roads, then across to Pakenham, up over the top to Gembrook, the incredible Kirth Kiln road, then down the highway to Woori Yallock, regrouping near Launching Place.  From there down the mighty Macclesfield Road to Avonsleigh, Emerald, The Patch, Monbulk and finally Silvan Dam.  The weather gods were kind – we all had uneventful trips except Les Cox.  Thinking Colleen had said “pick up a small eucalypt for the front nature strip while you’re up there”, Les arrived at Silvan with a fair sized gum tree lodged in his undercarriage.

The BBQ:
Thanks Brian for a great ride. Thanks Steve Bailes as Tail End Charlie.  I had the privilege of being reporter at large and photographer.  Special thanks though to some serious Ulysses Royalty – Lord John and Lady Margaret Taylor and former monarch King Greg Rees the First.  Obviously, royal blood is better!!  This was a great BBQ – especially Lady Margaret’s caramelised onions…….  (Spoiler Alert – Greg Rees said “don’t cook too many…”  Go Lady Margaret!!)

Conclusion:
In lunchtime discussions, Steve mentioned he’d been to the Moto Expo but there was no Honda Goldwing stand……  Apparently they’d got lost on the way and set up in Kyneton!!  A GPS would go well on a Goldwing…….
We wended our merry way home at the end of a great Club outing (so good in fact that a few went home to Altona and Werribee via the Black Spur – relax Les & John, your secret is safe with us).  Andrew & Jack also appeared to take a “wrong turn” leaving the BBQ….
Next week, John Cook leads us to Inverloch from Lilydale, with a visit to the Bunerong National Coastal Park, where the views are second to none.  Then the following week, Les Cox treats us to another great ride – Ardeer to Yea!!  Psst, you didn’t hear “Lerderderg Gorge” from me, ok?
