Ride Report: Officer to Noojee 24 Feb 2019
Ride Leader: Geoff Shugg
Tail End Charlie: Jack Fei
Reporter: Pat Ryan
This was Geoff’s first official time leading a ride with Melbourne Ulysses although he did lead an “ad hoc” ride late last year. Well done Geoff and we look forward to many good rides from you in the future as this one was a cracker, judging by the comments of most of the group at lunch time.
Nine of us turned up at Officer for the ride in perfect weather. Even Vince came from far flung Mernda to ride with us. That was a pretty good number considering the Superbikes were racing at Phillip Island and a lot of our regulars had gone down there.
A good selection of bikes with Geoff on his 500cc single cylinder Royal Enfield, Vince on his new VStrom DL1000, Jack, Sam and Jeff on their 1200 BMWs, a new guy Ronny (I think) on a Ninja, another newbie whose name escapes me on his big Harley with a six inch back tyre, Andrew on his Yamaha and of course my Triumph Tiger Explorer XCA 1200.
It was a great route from start to finish with lots of tight turns combined with more sweeping bends and not too much traffic. A bit taxing on an old fellow like me but very enjoyable all the same. From Officer it was up through Beaconsfield and on to Yarra Junction via the Kurth Kiln Road. Morning tea was at a café/bakery which I don’t recall visiting before and the grub was good. After refreshment it was off through Powelltown, Neerim South, Crossover and down part of the Old Sale Road via Willow Creek, Buln Buln and Hill End before arriving at Noojee a bit after 1pm. The pub was absolutely packed and the queue for food and drinks was so long that we decided to move on. Some to the lunch shop down the road and others took off in the direction of home.
All in all a perfect day for a ride in good company with the weather good although it did get a little hot on the way home.
