It had to happen .... I started searching the WEB for a Vincent here in Australia and found a few but invariably they were not originals - in that while in most part - all of the components were made by Vincent-HRD in the UK in all cases what I saw was bikes put together from parts from a number of other bikes - in effect an assembly of spare parts. About 6 months back (say Feb 2011) I was in my garage working on one of my bikes when a neighbor dropped by for a chat and makes the casual remark along the lines of “you must know the inside if that bike better than the outside”. One thing led to another and with me making the observation that I had always wanted a classic British bike to restore then ride – the neighbor out and tells me that he knows of an old Vincent Comet single that has stood unloved in a garage for over 20 years.
January 2011, I purchased a 2001 Yamaha Majesty scooter to use as a city commuter and runabout. In its earlier life it has seen 10 years of service as a utility vehicle within the grounds of the Fawkner Crematorium and as such had never been road registered – and as you can see from my comments below – I suspect it had NEVER been serviced in its life!
