COVID 19 Restrictions Updates

Put simply the ride calendar has been put on hold as of 9 July in view of restrictions announced today. enlightened

Stage 3 "Stay at Home" restrictions will be reinstated across metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire from 11:59pm on Wednesday 8 July.
I am blatantly stealing parts of the Premier’s address today from the DHHS website.

2020 has not been the year any of us wanted.  ... Uncertainty about what the future holds.

In the last 36 hours we lost two more Victorian lives to this deadly virus. We don't yet know their names, their stories or the circumstances in which they died.  All we do know is that — except for the company and compassion of the medical staff who cared for them —they would have died alone.  No family. No friends. No holding hands. No goodbyes. That's how dangerous and infectious this disease is.

Yesterday, we reached a grim new milestone, the most cases in a single day. Today, we surpassed it.   It's clear we are on the cusp of our second wave - and we cannot let this virus cut through our communities.
For six weeks, and if you live in these areas, there'll be only four reasons to leave your home:

  1. Shopping for food and essential items.
  2. Care and caregiving.
  3.  Daily exercise.
  4. Work and study — if you can't do it from home.

Otherwise: Stay home. Stay home. We are fighting a global and deadly pandemic.   This Stay Home direction will apply to your principal place of residence — that means no escaping to holiday homes.
Because we need to limit the spread, there will only be three reasons to cross the border of these metropolitan areas: Shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Work and study — if you can't do it from home.  Not Exercise
Businesses in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will also return to Stage 3 restrictions.  Restaurants and cafes will return to takeaway and delivery services only. Beauty and personal services will need to close. Entertainment and cultural venues will need to close. Community sport will need to stop.
I also understand six weeks might feel like an eternity. But it's the time our health experts tell us they need to really get on top of this thing.
But I'm asking you, please talk to your families. Talk to your friends. Talk to your neighbours. Talk to your communities.
Now more than ever, we need Victorians to play their part. Lives are counting on it.

Ride Cancellations and Restrictions Continue

One month ago, as Melbourne was placed under Stay at Home directions there had been a total 2824 cases of COVID 19 in Victoria and 22 people had died since the pandemic was identified.  Put bluntly things have gone badly in Victoria since then and Victoria now has a total of 13,867 cases and 181 people have died.   The authorities have necessarily placed more restriction on us and they can be seen here:

I am not even going to try and guess where we’ll be in 6 weeks.   I just hope the responses work.  
Clearly (in Melbourne) we are not riding anywhere soon, so let’s remember to reach out and stay in contact with those members who may be doing it tougher than others.  Luckily, we have great communication methods available to us these days.
I count myself as one of the lucky ones, I am still with the girl I met in 1967 and we’re both enjoying good health.  I am also aware that an aged care facility less than I kilometre from our home has had over 100 cases and people have died.   This temporary restriction on my exercise is a small price to pay if it helps turn things around.   Clearly, the virus spreading this pandemic is extremely contagious so please,
"Do The Right Thing and Stay at Home” as required and practise good hygiene.   
Please stay safe and tolerant and hopefully in the not too distant future we can get back to doing more of the things we enjoy.

Ride Cancellations Continue

Here we are in September and it seems very clear we will not be doing any form of organised ride before November at the earliest. 
Mike is keeping an eye on things and has rides in the "pipeline" ready for when we can do and plan things.
Please be patient and conduct yourself responsibly in the mean time

A Small concession or opportunity

From 11:59pm 18 October 2020 a number of restrictions eased. 
You can now travel up to 25 km from your home or permitted workplace within metropolitan Melbourne.
Travel to regional Victoria is still only allowed for permitted purposes even if this is within 25 kms.
This means you cannot travel into regional Victoria for exercise or recreation.
You can leave home for any period of time to exercise or see friends and family outdoors.  There are no limits on the number of times you can leave home.
You can meet in a group of up to ten people from a maximum of two households outdoors in a public place to socialise 
An outdoor public place means areas accessible to everyone, including local parks and beaches. 

You can leave home, with limits for:
shopping for food or other essential items
socialising or exercise (applies to outdoor exercise, and with your household or up to nine other people outdoors, from a maximum of two households). This needs to be in a public outdoor place (for example a local park)

I believe this means you can go for a ride of up to 25 km to meet up with a friend and socialise.  
Nothing in the way of formal rides yet, but yes, you can go for a ride to catch up with a friend.  Maximum of two households. 
Check the weather, call someone.
Unlike regional areas it seems we still cannot “just go for a ride”   
Please enjoy yourselves and please continue to conduct yourselves responsibly.
I'm about to fire the bike up and find somewhere more than 5 kilometres away in the Dandenongs to exercise. enlightened
