President’s Report October 2010
The number of registered users on the new website is growing steadily and large numbers of visitors are accessing the site. Some members have become confident and active in adding content such as blogs, photos and stories and I have been receiving very good feedback from members and others who have visited the site.
I would encourage members to register on the site to maximise communication opportunities between members. I would again like to thank Kate for all the great work she has been doing in setting this all up.
Saffron Road Motor Cycle Tours have also become a sponsor and have advertised some specials on the website. I have sent out an email of their latest specials to all the members I have on my email list.
The proprietors of our other sponsors; Bike Mart, Jeffrey Motor Cycle Centre, Metro Motor Cycles plus Treads and Things have been invited to attend the president’s BBQ ride on the 5th December and these sponsors have also assisted with raffle prizes for the High Country Odyssey.
I would encourage members to consider supporting these businesses when looking for apparel, a motor bike, tyres and accessories or even that exotic trip. You may well be pleasantly surprised with a discount if you mention your membership and their sponsorship.
I would like to thank all those members who have made the commitment to lead rides this year. Your efforts are appreciated by all who participate in rides including many visitors from other branches. These efforts help maintain one of the primary strengths of the Melbourne Branch namely it's ride calendar in that we basically provide an avenue for members to get together and ride almost every weekend of the year.
Now would be a good time to volunteer to lead a ride in the summer – early autumn whilst there is a probability of good weather and so that I can fill the calendar to the end of March before the next Spare Tyre gets issued. We are also in discussion with the Ulysses Alpine Riders Group exploring the possibility of having an overnight ride in Bright Porepunkah area either in March or early April. Have a look at the calendar, pick a date and get in touch with me.
The Melbourne Branch High Country Odyssey at Mansfield over Cup Weekend
This great event is now only a week away. I would encourage any people who intend to go to register as soon as possible. I also encourage all members who intend to help out up at Mansfield to contact Margaret or me to specifically let us know how and when they can help.
VSK Day on the 14th November has been well publicised elsewhere but again I would urge members who can and intend to participate and assist to contact Perry very soon to enable effective planning to enable the smooth running of this great event.
The Australian Motorcycle Expo will run from the 26th to the 28th November 2010 in Melbourne and the Melbourne Branch will be setting up a display at the venue. If you can help out manning the stand at some stage during the event please contact Perry.
The Christmas function has again been booked at the Donvale Sports Club in Noonan way for the evening of Saturday 11th December and again it would be very much appreciated if bookings and payments were made well in advance to assist with catering and planning.
The Melbourne Branch AGM will be held on 20 February 2011 at Donvale.
I would urge members to consider nominating for a position on the committee to ensure the continued health of this great branch of the Ulysses Club.
Events such as the High Country Odyssey will definitely need some new people to commit to the organisation if they are to continue beyond this year.
Our secretary – Perry has now been appointed to the National Committee and will be standing down from the Melbourne Branch and another committee member will definitely be standing down.
So we definitely need a new secretary and several committee members including someone to take on the role of organising events such as the Odyssey and VSK Day.
David Paxman is recovering steadily from his shoulder injury. He is driving again, but riding a motor bike is still quite some way off. Harry is now back on a bike after breaking his thumb at work. He has been keeping members informed via his blog posts. Mike McCann is seriously ill and updates on his condition have been included in the web forums.
When riding - Stay safe and consider others. Courtesy and road craft go a long way.
Keep yourselves, your licences and your bikes intact.
