We have just returned home from a great weekend riding through the high country with close to 50 like-minded people. My wife Julie and I were made to feel welcome from start to finish. This is the first major ride I have done with the Ulysses Club and thanks to the planning of John, Melbourne’s Branch President, and I am sure other people behind the scenes, the weekend went off without a hitch, riding through some of Victoria’s most spectacular roads at a great pace without any major dramas which is quite a feat when bringing together so many people.
The ride was conveniently punctuated with breaks for fuel for the bike and the body (an absolute necessity for bladders of this vintage). The overnight stay at Howman’s Gap was great value, convenient and without fuss. It also provided a great time for socialising and getting to know fellow Ulysses members and their friends. Camaraderie was high throughout the trip, even during the early morning fire alarm. Two great meals at the accommodation saw us refreshed in the morning for the second leg of our trip which took us back through Mt Beauty, Whitfield, Mansfield and home.
Both days riding was great fun and the early morning rain on Saturday did nothing to dampen anyone’s spirits and we were rewarded with a dry Saturday afternoon and Sunday which allowed us to push our bikes a bit more.
Overall it was a great experience riding with the club and meeting new friends. We are both looking forward to future rides and catching up with our fellow Ulysseans.
