President’s Report June 2013

Recent Activity

We have certainly had a lot happening recently.  Thanks to those who volunteered at the Ironman event in March, $2400 was donated to VSK and another $2400 was donated to UCARF.   The AGM event in Maryborough was well attended and enjoyed.  A great variety of rides was still conducted while so many were away.  Many thanks go to the efforts of ride leaders and the participants who made guests feel welcome.   The Ice Run was successful and enjoyed by those who attended despite the route being changed entirely because of weather conditions.

MelbourneBranch Odyssey-Nagambie Friday 18 to Sunday 20 October 2013

The annual get together this year will again be held at Nagambie Lakes Leisure Park.   Dennis Tucker has been confirmed as the entertainer for the Saturday night.   If you don’t know of him, ask anyone who has seen him at Mansfield over the years, he is very good.   Full details are on the website.   We also have a big screen available if you want to stay and watch the Moto GP on the Sunday.

If you do intend to come it really would help if you let me know asap to assist with planning, so it is time to start thinking about it and make a commitment.

You will also have to contact the resort direct to book your accommodation.

If you’re not camping, sharing a cabin with a few others is a very cost effective and comfortable option.

To mark the 30th year of the Ulysses Club, this is a great time to share some camaraderie with fellow members even those you haven’t seen for a while.

Rides and participation

One of the primary strengths of Melbourne branch is that we hold regular and very interesting rides which are open to all Ulysses members irrespective of branch affiliation.   Many thanks to all who make this possible by actually leading rides and don’t forget Doug is always very happy to hear from any person volunteering to lead a ride.

Website

It is impossible to keep everything immediately obvious on the front page of the website.   A click on the “Latest Content” header will take you to the most recent activities and forum posts and is a good way to catch up with current news.

As you may be aware, Kate has been quite ill the past few months and hopefully is now well on the road to recovery following surgery.  She is planning several improvements to the site and we will keep you posted

Future Events

2014 will mark the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Melbourne Branch and we are looking at a number of possible events to mark this occasion.    We are looking a reunion lunch, perhaps a “meet and greet” for Victorian members and/or a commemorative ride.   Please contact the committee if you wish to contribute with ideas or more importantly assistance.

Finally, I would like to say, “When riding, practise road craft, courtesy and consideration for others so that we can continue to enjoy our motorcycling safely.”
