It's Time...

Wahoo! My first ride with Ulysses. The mission is to meet some members in Lilydale for a ride to Yarck. As usual I'm not conducive to early starts as a part time night shift worker, ok, I have to be in Lilydale by 10am. Set alarm for 8:30 but I don't bounce out of bed like normal people. "Don't close your eyes" I tell myself. "Get your ass out of bed ya mug" I scream at myself. So I stumble out of bed at 8:50 and dress accordingly for a ride, smash some breakfast and out to the bike.

Get the cover off MLC (I call my bike Mid Life Crisis) and check tyre pressures, rear needs some air. Damn time is flying and I have to travel from East Melbourne and now time is a wasting. I get to Liydale at 10:15am for the 10am ride. Guess what? No one is at Liydale. I've missed my very first ride with Ulysses. Oh well, I'll head off to Yarck and see how it goes.

Stop for fuel on the Melba Hwy and just as I'm ready to take off five (5) Harleys roar past, you beauty! Some easy competition so I thought, these buggers were hammering the bitumen at around 120 - 130 Km/h pulling off some hair raising overtakes, it was a blast but they turned left at Yea I went right to Yarck and as usual bikes were everywhere in Yea. Cruised to Yarck and walked the entire length of this tiny town both sides, fascinating little place with two spots for coffee, I choose the one with less bling, so to speak.

No sign of any old fellows so I take a spin up this back road to Ruffy where the road turns to dirt, so I return to Yarck and head to Yea for the usual walk up and down the street to check out all the bikes and grab some food.

There was some old blokes sitting at a table but didn't see any Ulysses badges but there was a bloke a couple of metres away putting his jacket on. A Ulysses badge! "G'Day mate, did you come from Lilydale?" Yes! Those blokes at the table are the clan I was looking for. Thanks Hans, I run into another esteemed member Col who introduced me to Andrew Kennedy the lead rider. Talking with these fine gentlemen to discover they went the very long way, crikey they went to Healesville to Whittlesea then Yea and ended the ride at Yea, 260 Km run and poor Yarck didn't get a look in.

Mission, there's no way in the world will I be late to the next Ulysses odyssey...

Congratulations on the perseverance

Well I wasn't game to say "Welcome Stranger " blush, anyway I'm glad you persevered yes and finally found them.

Family arrangements prevented me from going on this ride, but as you've discovered we're normally fairly prompt in relation to departure times.  wink

Made It...

This should be easy, 10am meet at Adeer. Set the alarm for 8:22am and as usual I'm in no state to jump out of my dreamy state of mind. But like a trooper I did 10 minutes later. Adeer will be a breeze, it's only 40 minutes up the westgate freeway. Got there with plenty of time to check out all the bikes ... and trikes!!!  The trikes were part of another party but boy they were impressive. OK all the jokers are gathered together for the run down on how this all goes down. We turned off at Rockbank and went along this wicked road to Meredith, grabbed a bite to eat and the all important coffee. Then off to Geelong on some other great back road and a cruise through Geelong where we come across some heavy traffic along the shoreline, then to Portarlington. Something like 20 bikes 'made it' on what was a fantastic ride, what a beautiful day it was...
