News Updates for Victorian Members

Many of you may remember that Perry Stephens used to regularly issue a monthly newsletter before he went onto the National Committee.

Now that he has retired from those busy duties he has resurrected his newsletter (Victorian Information Bulletin) and it is published monthly and it contains lots of stuff you may well miss so thanks for that Perryyeswinksmiley

To get this newsletter direct you need to have your email address registered at the National Administration Office, so if you want it and you're not getting it please update your contact details at the National Admin Officeenlightened

It is a good idea to keep your contact details up to date at National HQ anyway to ensure you are kept aware of matters of importance or interest to members.

One item from Perry's VIB is included here for information and as an example:

"Opportunity to join a member for a ride in Eastern Europe

Fellow Ulysses Club members may be interested in joining Trevor Hudson, a member from Yarra Ranges Branch VIC, on a Czech Hungary Motorcycle Tour by Adriatic Moto Tours. The 2,700 km tour starts and ends at Ljubljana in Slovenia from 30th July to 13th August 2016.

During the two weeks we will be riding through the very scenic Austrian Alps, along the Grossglockner Pass and beside the huge Balaton Lake. We will also be visiting historic Salzburg in Austria, Budapest in Hungary, Prague and Cesky Krumlov Castle in Czechoslovakia, plus Krakow in Poland, with an option to visit Auschwitz Concentration Camp.

For more information and to book, see the Adriatic Moto Tours webpage

or contact Trevor by sending an email to tjhudson@melbpc.org.au "

MAGNIFICENT MOTORCYCLE TRAILER

(I have spoken with Alan – the trailer is still for sale. He has had a couple of calls and the callers said they will call back. If you are looking for a trailer and haven't made the time to ring Alan you had better 'get on your bike' or you might miss out. Perry)

This "Gra-Will” trailer is the best aerodynamic trailer on the road.

It has a capacity of about 600 litres, is fully lined with carpet and is lockable.
It has independent suspension and runs on 155R13 car tyres. It is fitted with a 7 pin flat electric plug for connection to your bike or car.
It has been towed around Australia fully laden behind a BMW K1100 LTSE and its effect on fuel economy, when compared to no trailer, was a reduction of 1.0 to 1.5 kl/litre.
The range was still better than 320 kl per full fuel tank.
The trailer has a VIN number and is ready for registration if required.
I have sold my bike and hence have no further need for this great trailer.
Sale price is $2500.

Contact Alan on 0412 411 802 or (03) 9850 4972.

It is now official, the AGM Event in 2019 will be held at Mornington Racecourse in Victoria from 25th February to 3rd March 2019. The AGM Event will be managed by a coalition of Victorian branches and at this early stage is looking like an event that all members will enjoy.

The beautiful Mornington Peninsula provides a perfect backdrop for an AGM Event and after a recent multi-million-dollar renovation, Mornington Racecourse will be an excellent venue.

Mornington Racecourse Management, Morning Peninsula Council and local business are all thrilled to be able to host this event and will be working with the event committee at all levels to ensure its success.

The AGM Event committee is:
Event Director  - Robert Hunt (Geelong Branch)
Event Secretary  - Glenda Abery (Two Bays Branch)
Event Treasurer  - Patricia Cristina (Geelong Branch)
Event Manager 1  - Greg Rees (Melbourne Branch)
Event Manager 2  - Deb Boehm (Westgate Wanderers Branch)
Event Manager 3  - John Tout (Westgate Wanderers Branch)
Event Manager 4  - Kevin White (Yarra Ranges Branch).

We are committed to ensuring that all members have the best possible experience across all areas of the AGM Event. If any member has ideas that they feel the AGM Event would benefit from, then please contact any of the committee members and pass your ideas along.

We will keep you informed at all times of progress and happenings as things progress.

All branches in Victoria are excited at hosting this AGM Event in 2019 and we look forward to welcoming as many members as possible to our area of paradise.

I know that Port Macquarie and then Riverland in SA will set a high standard and we will learn from them to ensure that the AGM Event in 2019 maintains the high standard that members expect.

I look forward to meeting as many members as possible.

Ride Well, Stay Upright and Return Safe,

Victorian Ulysses Club Meet & Greet 2016

(The following is from Kevin White, Yarra Rangers Branch President)

Yarra Ranges Branch hosted the Victorian Branches annual meet'n'greet at Mt Franklin on Sunday 20th March 2016. About 160 Ulysses members from 10 other branches attended, including Central Highlands, Central Victoria, Echuca, Geelong, Grampians, Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Two Bays, Whittlesea and Westgate Wanderers. It was a beautiful sunny day and our catering team arrived early with our Yarra Ranges BBQ trailer to set up the BBQs, hot water for tea and coffee and got the drinks on ice. Members of some branches had camped overnight so there was plenty of good cheer early.

Individual and small groups of riders drifted in all morning and there was plenty of banter over a cuppa or a cool drink. The local campers and picnickers were quite entertained by the impromptu show and shine display! Then the larger groups arrived with a rumble and lunch was served at 12.30pm. On the menu were beef or pork sausages, meat patties, and a choice of 5 salads with some fresh bread. It all worked really well thanks to lots of willing volunteers, and there was plenty of good tucker, even when the Adventure Riders arrived after 1.00pm. A few short announcements followed, and the drawing of a raffle rounded out an excellent event - it was great to see so many Branches socialising.

As riders began to saddle up and head off, we packed up the trailers and headed down the highway, weary but very happy with the day's activity. Thanks for coming!

DOES YOUR BRANCH HAVE A RIDE SET FOR SUNDAY MAY 15th?
The Australian Street Rod Federation (ASRF) is holding this annual event on this date at the Sandown Racecourse.

It's now called ASRF CHEQUERED FLAG DAY. Last year it was called 'Blokes Day Out' and probably some of the girls didn't attend. On the day there will be displays of some magnificent classic cars and some street rod vehicles. ASRF Victoria has over 3,500 members representing 49 clubs and individual members.

The day has a theme of 'Men's Health Issues'. Following the events of 2014 and 2015 many blokes were referred to providers of appropriate health services like GPs and even hospital emergency departments.

As you will be aware, the Ulysses Club raises funds for UCARF – 'Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund'. So we are also into health issues. Many other related clubs will be represented so don't forget to seek out the Ulysses Club stand. Come and say G'day!

International Events

The following is from the Ulysses Club website…

Ulysses Club Switzerland - 7th International Gathering
Ulysses Club Switzerland is currently in the process of organising the 7th International Ulysses Club Gathering from 9 - 12 September 2016. Parpan is situated at an altitude of 1500 m in the Lenzerheide region in the eastern part of Switzerland. Ideal to start amazing rides over the Julierpass, Albula or Flüelapass into the Engadin and potentially to ride on down to Tirano in Italy; or across the Ofenpass towards Vinschgau, to head to the absolute highlight for any motor-biker, the Stilfserjoch (Passo dello Stelvio). Roadmasters Jörg and Roger are busy finding the most exciting rides for all of us.

Ulysses Club Zimbabwe
Mark Salthouse from Ulysses Club Zimbabwe would like to invite members to their proposed International gathering around mid-2017. With FIM's support the event has the prospect of being a once in a lifetime event. There are also motorcycle agents in nearby South Africa on standby for bike hire, so the adventure can begin and end there

Wauchope & Port Macquarie AGM Event 2017

Yep! Another AGM Event has been enjoyed. Every day saw the sun shine and there was no rain until we received a few drops on the last day. The Grand Parade, along the coast road, was enjoyed in magnificent weather.

Jen Woods is our new National President and the new kid on the NatCom block is Dave Wright from WA. Dave has been on the Road Safety Committee for some tine so he ain’t so new really.

It was announced that the 2020 AGM Event will be held by Northern Rivers Branch and will be based at Lismore on 4th to 10th of May.

So where is Lismore? About 37km inland from Byron Bay, 80km South of Gold Coast, and 25km South of Nimbin. What’s that I can smell?

The National Motorcycle Museum of Australia

On the way home to Melbourne we had a stop at Nabiac to have a look at this magnificent collection of motorcycles.  The oldest I remember is a 1911 bike. There are some old cars as well. One was called a ‘Horseless Carriage’.

When we arrived our new National Secretary Henry was there with Marjorie, they were admiring this magnificent collection.  If you haven’t seen this place do yourself a favour when next up that way.

Names of motorbikes I was not aware of included MORBIDELLI, CORGI and PANTHER.

A motorcycle friendly Motel for your information

Heading south from the Nabiac Motorcycle Museum towards Melbourne, it was getting dark, we decided to stop at the next motel.  We followed the sign to Tarcutta and stopped at the Tarcutta Halfway Motor Inn. A good decision!

They had a comfortable twin bed room for us. The licensed restaurant & bar was very welcome for a couple of coldies before the good-sized meals came, with a bottle of ‘red’.

The buffet continental breaky was welcome in the morning before we left on our 450km drive to Melbourne. The manager, Brenda, told us of groups of motorcyclists that have stayed there in the past and a couple of good rides she recommends to them.

They also have a pool to relax in and stables for horses.

For further information google the name of the motel.

Or call Brenda on 02 6928 7294.

Meeting for the Victorian Branch Secretaries & Presidents

The minutes of the April meeting, held in Bendigo, were eventually distributed on the 12th of May.  Thanks for your patience, I have had a few distractions. I don’t have everyone’s email contact.  If you didn’t receive the minutes and would like to see this document, send me an email request and I’ll forward them to you.

This was the second such meeting; what has been decided regarding the procedure?

-          Six monthly meetings – I suggest April and October.

-          The VBC in the morning, the meeting on the afternoon of the same day, same town.

-          If you have any New Business items let’s know in advance and they will be listed.
