I received some sad news from Cornwall yesterday from Keith Hooper and I will quote part of his message;
"I am very saddened to inform you that Ellen, who as you know, succumbed to cancer in April of last year (2018), sadly passed away last Friday afternoon (the 23rd) at 5:00pm.
I was right by her side .... Ellen's eldest daughter, Victoria, was also present to provide her fullest support.
.......... Rest in Peace my dear Ellen.
For those who may not remember, Keith (a Ulyssean who lives in Cornwall, England) and Ellen spent a number of years riding a Honda Transalp from New Zealand home to England including a couple of laps of Australia. They met up with Greg Rees and Julie in Halls Gap shortly after the Albany AGM Event, then visited Kris and me back in Melbourne and accompanied us to a Friday night social. They returned the following year and rode further around Australia including attendance at the Newcastle AGM Event before storing the bike with other friends in Darwin and eventually riding home via Timor Leste, Indonesia and on.....
Keith, Ellen, Kris and I maintained contact and we caught up again last year when Keith did a presentation to the Ulysses International gathering at Harrogate, Yorkshire. We also toured the Yorkshire Dales together and Kris and I subsequently stayed with Ellen and Keith at their home in Newquay, Cornwall where we enjoyed Ellen's company while they both showed us some great local sights and sites. We were well aware of Ellen's illness and prognosis at that time and she resolutely and positively made the most of her situation.
It was great to have met such wonderful people through the Ulysses Club and show what a wonderful "family" we can be.
Two wonderful friends and sadly Ellen has been taken too soon
